The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen is looking for a Thesis writing student (Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis) to develop a synthetic scanner simulator and light stage based on 3dMax utilizing photo realistic rendering techniques.
The Optics and Sensing Laboratory supports research and development of new algorithms for image processing, enhancement and denoising, the integration of sensing systems of different types (stereo, video, range, etc.), new sensors and algorithms for computational photography and astronomy, and the development of real-time sensing systems for robotic platforms.
- Build digitalmodel of 3D Scanner including cameras, lights, lenses, and projectors
- Develop renderingpipeline incorporating various parameters
- Compare the output of the rendered image to the real image
- Develop a user-friendly rig for scanner reconfiguration
What we are looking for
The candidate will be a highly motivated student with a background in computer graphics, computer science or audiovisual media and that is ready to work on this topic for three months up to half a year.
- Extensive knowledge in 3dsMax (or similar software with photorealistic rendering capabilities)
- Basic experience in MAXscript or Python for 3dsMax
- Basic experience with digital cameras
- Capabilityof working in highdemanding environments
- Applicants must be matriculatedstudents with excellent conversational and writing skills in English (working language). German proficiency is a plus.
